SOLD

I've been a bit bad at blogging lately, it started with the kids out of preschool, then we finally got some nice weather, and now this week we sold our house! its been on the market for the past 6 weeks, so that kept me busy cleaning up after 3 munchkins, but now i'm in a whirlwind it seems!

We sold the house at 9pm on Sunday, and they asked for a quick close, so on Thursday we will be saying good-bye to West Fargo. After 13 years in the area it's crazy to be leaving. Even crazier is that we will be gone in 1 week and I haven't even packed a single box yet!

Drawstring Bag

I wanted a simple drawstring bag, so I used the Hobo Sack tutorial from Made's fabulous blog. So simple to follow, so cute.

simple to follow, my only comment would be, I used flannel for the bag and knit for the drawstrings, and it is a little difficult to pull and loosen. I think next time I'll use a cord for the drawstring!

Look what came in the mail today? I'm so excited. Saving the planet, one diaper at a time...HA! I'm hoping to use the 50% of the time, but still saving the planet, right?!?  Baby B is 7 months old, so knowing her, we've got a good 2 years of diapering ahead of us!

Now to wash them 6 times before they are ready for use...I'll keep ya posted on how they work :)

Iron On Super Hero's

my kids have been begging for new shirts, but their requests were things I couldn't sew :)  I had some handy dandy iron on material in my supply drawer, so I thought I'd try that out!

Supplies:
shirt
Printable Iron On Sheets (found at a hobby store or Wal-mart)

Directions:
We hopped on the internet and each kiddo got to pick out their picture, my Buddy wanted Super Hero Squad, and he was very particular on which characters had to be represented. My Dolly wanted a rainbow, and Hello Kitty, and lucky for us we found a picture with both!

I copied the pictures into photoshop to get them on paper and ready to print. Make sure to reverse the image if there is any writing or anything that needs to be a particular order. I flipped my picture appropriately, but when I had extra space and decided to make some size tags for the kids clothes, I of course for got to flip the sizes, oops!

Cut out the image and place it upside down on your shirt. Iron away according to package directions. I struggled with mine and it has sort of creases to it, but I think it just makes it look vintage and love it :)

Dolly wanted a yellow shirt, so Hello Kitty, who should be white, is now yellow :)

This was one of the first "shoots" where the kids LOVED to model for me!

Not that you can tell by her face, ha!

He was so excited for a "boy" project!

and the goofiness comes out :)

Flower Button Ring

This one is so easy and so fun! I made it for my 17 year old sister for her birthday, perfectly flashy for her taste :)

So easy to make! First, measure your finger. Cut a piece of elastic about 1/2" larger.
Thread the elastic through the button.
Overlap edges and hand stitch it closed.

Turn the elastic around so that the sewn part is next to the button and out of sight. Its ok if the elastic is a bit small after sewing it together, you want it snug!

Put the ring on and enjoy! A 10 minute project :)

Life is Good

Have you ever had one of those random moments where you just want to sit back and say, "wow, life is good!"??  Ever so randomly I had one of those the yesterday, doing absolutely nothing special :)

my Dolly was helping me make homemade pizza for lunch...

I was splitting out Teddy Grahams into personal little bags (a little anal, I know!)...

my Buddy was playing games on my phone, lost in his own little bubble...

and I just had one of those moments where all I could think was, "life is good"!!!

Take time today to enjoy the most random, mundane task, and enjoy!

Soccer starts tonight

Here is what I overheard while doing laundry:

D: Does that hurt?
H: no
D: Does that hurt?
H: no
D: Does THAT hurt?
H: (sounding bored) no, I have my soccer pads on

impatiently waiting for soccer to start!

my husbands response to the story of Dolly testing Buddy's new shin pads:

I guess we better not get him a nut cup then…. J

Towels for Teachers

I was running low on time when the school year was winding down, so I needed something quick for teacher gifts!

I love the simplicity of a few rows of ribbon and ric rac! Plus it was easy to make :)  I tucked them in a bread basket, hoping it was something unique and that they haven't received 500 times before!

Dragonfly Soothie

Last weekend I sent you to Night Owl Crafting to check out my Dragonfly soothie, to keep it on file for me, I'm posting it here today!

With a teething baby in my house, I wanted to make a teether/soothie that she could chomp on and play with! And so the Soft Dragonfly Soothie tutorial was born.

  1. Supplies needed: scraps for the front and back, stuffing, something crinkly sounding (optional), ribbons and/or rick rack.
  2. I started by creating my "pattern". Basically it was a kidney with a circle attached to it!
  3. Next I cut out a fabric copy of the pattern. For the back I used a chenille, love the feel of chenille! This was the whole shape. To add color to the front, I cut a circle for the head, and then the body out of a coordinating print. I used the pattern and drew up to where the head starts and then just drew a straight line.

4. Fold up 1 edge of the head a quarter inch
5. Pin to the body, wrong side of head on top of right side of the body; and sew close to the edge.
6. Pin on the rick rack attenna and ribbon wings, making sure they are pointed to the inside of the body, with the cut edge of the ribbon matching up with the outside edge of the fabric.
7. Pin the back to the front ensuring that all of the ribbon and rick rack is tucked inside.

8. Sew around the outside perimeter leaving a good 2-3" opening for turning it right side. I double stitched for durability stitching a quarter inch and a 3/8" stitch. (I did two extra rows of stitching over all ribbons too!)
9.  Turn right side out, all the ribbons will pop out on their own!
10. Stuff with stuffing. I placed a piece of plastic from a wipes package in the head to give a crinkle sound.
11.  Pin closed the opening and whip stitch it closed.

And the soothie in use!
