Baby Leg Warmers

Remember when I posted this picture of my Baby at 6 months?

Well, here is how to make the knit leg warmers! I've seen tons of simple tutorials on how to make leg warmers out of socks, but of course as it's now spring, I couldn't find any cute knee highs in the women's section, so I took matters into my own hands to make lightweight leg warmers :)

First off, measure those adorable chunky legs at the thigh and at the ankle and grab how long you want them to be.

Draw a straight line for the length. At the top draw a line that is HALF the thigh measurement. At the bottom draw a line that is HALF the ankle measurement. Connect the lines and this is your pattern. (make sure to cut the right way so that the leg warmers stretch!)

Cut two of the pattern

Right sides together, match up the long edges and sew.

Fold up a quarter inch on the top and bottom and hem. I pulled the fabric tight as I went so the thread would stretch with it.
Quick and easy!

Rockin Sweatshirt

We fancied up a great clearance find :)  I used my embroidery machine for this. But it could easily be done without, using iron on adhesive and stitching around the edge.

Note that he is wearing his Easy Peasy Tie Shirt! He thinks they look best together and always seems to wear this combination!

Bowtie

Aren't bowties adorable?

They turn your little boy into such a little man!

I used the bow tie tutorial from papernstitch. So cute and so easy!

I used scraps of fabric, so I did not have the requested 3" x 20" for the bow, so instead I used 4 pieces of fabric that were 3" x 5" and it worked perfectly that the seams were in the middle and unseen!

And one last shot showing what my Buddy thought of the bowtie :) Sort of that "my mom is MAKING me wear this!"

** KoJo Designs has another bowtie tutorial that also looks simple and adorable!

6 months

My beautiful baby is 6 months

She is the best baby, lays patiently while I sew or blog! Rarely crys and is full of smiles. Love this little one! She is so lucky to have a loving big brother and sister who entertain her on the rare occasion she does get "bored"!

Mod Podge Display Art

Do you have tons of artwork piling up from your child? I don't know about you, but mine come home with multiple papers every...single...day!  They would find when I may have thrown some of them away, so I had to come up with a more creative way to store them.

I've decided that I hang them up, and then on garbage day I sort through what are the "keepers" and what is scribbled or not unique!

So easy to make! I bought 8x10 canvases from Michael's when they were on sale and super cheap. I printed an 8x10 of the pictures I wanted to use. Of course I had one portrait and one landscape picture, ugh! So I cut them to 8x8 squares leaving me 2" of space. I used scrapbook paper to to accent and put their names on them!
  1. Mod Podge the canvas
  2. Stick the Picture on the canvas
  3. Add 3-5 layers of Mod Podge on top of the picture
  4. Hang on Wall
  5. Use clip boards to display your kids artwork

Elastic Lace Shoes

What do you do when the shoes your 3 year old picks has laces?

Do you teach a stubborn child to tie them? Tie them yourself...all...the...time? Or do you replace the laces?

I opted for the elastic! So EASY!

Lace the shoes as normal, and tie in a knot!!

the tongue kept slipping down so I stitched the elastic to the tongue in the middle and at the top. I used coordinating blue thread so it would blend right in :)

Upcycled Knit Hat

New Hat time!!

My poor baby has more than outgrown her hat. It is a beautiful hand knit hat purchased from Two Seaside Babies, I would highly recommend her! (see picture below!)

Although the width still fits her, it is now a bit short and doesn't cover her ears, looking pretty silly! The snow is FINALLY starting to melt, so I thought a nice knit hat would be perfect for spring! I rummage through my old t-shirts to find a great pink one.

I laid the old hat on the shirt and outlined it, being the width was still good, I left that alone, just adding a seam allowance, but it needed some height, so I curved it up to about an inch taller than this hat + seam allowance.
I also cut two rectangles that were the width of the hat and 5.5" tall

If you had a serger, you could serge these together. I don't. I used my neat little knit stitch and it went pretty smooth! Sew all around the hat and down the sides of the two rectangles.

Fold the rectangle in half, with seams to the inside for a clean finish. Place the band inside the hat, raw edges all together. You will be sewing through three pieces of fabric here.

Fold the cuff up and tack a few stitches to hold it in place. Cute hat, but needs something.

I tried my hand at making a fabric flower, pretty fun :) I sewed the flower on the side of the hat, centering it on the band. If I were to make another (which I'm sure I will) I'd sew it up a touch higher, as this sometimes gets in front of her eye :)
SO cute!!

Getting Ready for Easter

I don't tend to go all out with holiday apparel, call me cheap, but I struggle buying things for one time use!  I'm learning my kids on the other hand, LOVE to wear that stuff, and if I'm on top of things, they get several wears out of it ;)  My daughter helped me design this shirt herself, picking out how many eggs I was to merge, the scraps of fabric, and the embroidery thread color! It's fun when she gets so excited about sewing with me!

I've been working like crazy on their Easter outfits, I find it fun, my husband wonders why I don't go to the store to just buy them something! HA!
