Throwback Thursday

Sugar and Spice in the land of balls and Sticks is hosting a Throwback Thursday linky party, a fun chance to show "stuff" you made prior to blogging!

I don't know about you, but although I made some fun projects...the pictures are far from good {not that my current pictures are very good!}

Here is one of my favorites, a card table fort

It was SO fun to make, and a lot cheaper than I expected it to be, but time consuming! Especially for the beginner sewer that I am!

Love how the door rolls up! The mail box was a must, the kids favorite part I think!

A window with flowers :)  I think I'd look into a plastic for over the window though. Even though I made it small enough they couldn't poke their heads through, they try! And for this reason the felt on the window panes is quite stretched out...

happy creating!

Snuggly Owl Pillow

Who doesn't love a great stuffed animal? How about one that is a pillow? Perfect! I love this snuggly owl pillow from Make It or Love It.

US Map Pillow

Love love this pillow from KikiCreates, seriously adorable!  i just need to decide what color to make one in!!

Patching Pants

Any one else ready for spring? Besides my kids pants getting SHORT hey are starting to get holes from wearing them so much!  Well, with Spring approaching, I don't feel like buying more pants, so although I can't fix the length, I can fix the holes!

Start with pans, iron-on adhesive and fabric

Iron the Iron-on adhesive to the wrong side of the fabric.

Cut out your shapes

Remove the paper backing

And iron onto the pants. EASY!

Now these should make it until the snow melts :)

Easy Peasy Tie Shirt

I love all of the shirts and ties out there right now.

This was one of the easiest things to make... ever

Basic Shirt and Tie Tutorial
Start with a plain shirt (we used a Hanes shirt, they come in packs of 5 and my son LOVES to wear them under everything, so I have lots around!)
and a tie.

my biggest debate was "fat" tie or "skinny' tie. We went skinny.

For my size 5 shirt we measued the tie down to about 16.5 inches and cut.

Sew under the edge, it doesn't have to be neat, you won't see it!

Next I sort of "tied" the tie, making sure the second edge remained tucked in the knot. Pin it on the shirt, very important so it doesn't get crooked. And then sew close to the edge and DONE!

Next, rock out in your new tie!

Also looks great under a sweatshirt :)

Watch for this sweatshirt again...I've spiced it up since these pictures!

Almond Bark Puffcorn

Here is the easiest recipe, and so yummy with Spring/Summer on the way!
1 package of Almond Bark
1 BIG bag of puff popcorn

Melt the Almond Bark, start with 30 seconds, stir, then in 15 second intervals until a smooth consistency, do not over cook.

Pour over Puff Popcorn and stir. Add sprinkles if you like (I did but my bottle was too little and included yellow, so you barely see any!)

Lay out on wax paper to dry

Once dry, break apart and put in large bowl. Enjoy!

I ate a lot of this when I was pregnant last summer :)

The Beauty of Pier 1

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pier 1. All opinions are 100% mine.

March 20th is the first day of Spring...yippee! I don't know about you, but I'm sick of snow covering my yard!  My kids and I want to  get outside where we can run and play. And then I can sit back on my patio in a comfortable Coco Cove Outdoor Swivel Chair and enjoy a lemonade!

When the season is over, clean up that chair and bring it inside to watch your favorite Movies!  A run is also fun for indoors or outdoors.  I'm old school and love the look of the fabulous Floral Creme Rug

Now top off the great look with the hanging lantern set, on sale for ONLY $12.99! What a steal for a fabulous pop of color!

These plantars would be perfect with some colorful flowers, a great accent to any outdoor space!

Pier 1 has some great options for decorating your outside living space while you enjoy it!! Sign up for the Pier 1 Outdoor newsletter for ideas of how to make your patio or deck fabulous!

Did anyone have a papasan chair back in the day?  I did, I LOVED it! but now Pier 1 has reinvented it to make it even better. They have great fabrics for the cushion, and beautiful dark wicker bases - LOVE! Not only is the standard single papasan great, but they've added more styles, the double seat, outdoor papasans, and the Swingasan!  LOVE the Swingasan:

Just add a cushion to the Swingasan, and you are set for some comfort and great snuggles with the kids ;)

Wear Green - J Crew insired Toddler Dress

And Week 2 of "One Month to Win It" is over! This week the theme was "Wear Green". Whether that is interpreted as the color green, or as being eco-friendly, I accomplished both! I refashioned a former favorite shirt of mine into a dress for my little girl! The shirt was a little short , so perfect opportunity to turn it into something adorable for my dolly!
I found a dress on J Crew that I found absolutely adorable and used as my inspiration piece! By using a t-shirt of my daughters, I created a pattern to cut the shirt down to her size. The length was perfect for a dress. I guessed at where her hips were to add the drawstring waist. The t-shirt had a pocket, which added the perfect visual touch in my opinion, but the inspiration piece had a flower, so I wanted to make one. I put it on a clip so that I could either clip it to the pocket on the dress, or I could instead clip it in her hair and have a great matching barrette!  The flower was made of leftover fabric from the dress and ribbon used for the drawstring!

My little girl had fun dancing it out for our modeling session.

Love the little dress and how cute and trendy it is on where to find a large enough t-shirt to turn into a dress for me? :)

Quick basic T-shirt Dress Tutorial:
1" width of scrap fabric long enough to circle the waist
1/4-1/2" elastic (I used 1/4")

First, I used a favorite shirt of my daughters to measure what size I needed to cut the larger shirt down to.

Using the line drawn, carefully cut, starting with the arm holes. Then gradually fade down from the waist to the width you want the skirt to be. I kept the skirt on this one fairly narrow.

Next, Sew the arm holes back together.

After this, pin the sleeves back on to the shirt, matching right sides together. The sleeve is tucked in the shirt, so it is not visible in the picture below.

After this, pin up the side of the dress. I started sewing at the bottom ending at the sleeves.

Now the dress is sewn back together!

I didnt' take good pictures of the rest, so I'll just explain it. Choose where you feel the waist will be. It should be just a few inches below the natural waist so that the top will blouse a little. On the inside, cut a 1" scrap of fabric and sew it a 1/4" from each edge around the middle of the dress.

At first I just threaded the ribbon through and tied on the sides - simple! But my daughter pulled the ribbon out the first time wearing it so I had to change it :)

A better method is to thread elastic through, Mine was 1" longer than the circumference of the waist. After you thread it through, sew the elastic edges together. Next, tie two bows, and sew them to the outside edges of the dress. Tack them well so that your little one won't be able to untie them!

Now let your little dolly dance and enjoy her new dress! You can use scrap fabric and ribbon (and maybe a few crystals) to make a beautiful bow - or put it on the dress for some added bling!

Tutorial on the bow to come next week :)
